Local economy

Horsemarling Farm is situated in the beautiful Cotswold countryside on the edge of Stonehouse, Gloucestershire.

Stonehouse is a bustling town of over 12,000 residents.

Buying local milk means that more of the profits end up going directly back to us, the farmers. If the farm is able to be more profitable, there is a greater chance that the farm will be able to continue to operate.

We aim to:

  • Improve the local economy
  • Create more local jobs
  • Connect more people to the town
  • Promote other local ethical businesses
  • Support local not-for-profits

Stewardship

We will be participating in the Country Stewardship Scheme.

Countryside Stewardship (CS) provides financial incentives for farmers, woodland owners, foresters and land managers to look after and improve the environment.

The aim of the scheme is look after and improve the environment by:

  • conserving and restoring wildlife habitats
  • flood risk management
  • woodland creation and management
  • reducing widespread water pollution from agriculture
  • keeping the character of the countryside
  • preserving historical features in the landscape
  • encouraging educational access

Charity

We feel it is very important to support local charities.

5p of every litre of milk sold will be donated to a local charity.

The charity will be changed at intervals and chosen by the customers.

The charity will be chosen using a suggestion box situated in the vending shed where you can add a charity of your choice (must be local and registered).

To see which charities we have already supported and our current charity, please see our News and Facebook pages.

Local businesses

We support a wide range of local businesses, either via our very well -stocked produce vending machine or via our Tuesday Mini-Market.

We have a range of local businesses who pop by regularly and on an ad-hoc basis, so always check out our Facebook page for up-to-date info and dates.

Our produce vending machine is always well-stocked with SG Cakes, who sell their own fresh delicious brownies, cookies and cakes (great paired with our milk and milkshakes!), Bisley Lane Farm Meats, Selsley Foods Preserves, Day’s Cottage Apple Juices, Howletts Honey, Godsell’s Cheese and Brinkworth Butter and Yoghurt, as well as our own fresh eggs.

On Tuesdays at our Mini-Market, between 10-11am we welcome Salt Bakehouse, who use our tasty milk in their very tasty ‘Stonehouse Milk’ loaves, Armadeli who bring their cheese delicatessen products and Golden Sheep Coffee who sell award-winning artisan ethical coffee. See our Facebook page for up-to-date info on who is attending each week.

Come and see us and support other local independent businesses.

Stonehouse Milk Free Range Dairy Pasture Promise logo
Milk bearing the Pasture Promise label is backed up by NSF certification, a food standards label that will guarantee the cows have indeed been grazing outdoors for 180 days, that they are in yard for an hour before and after milking, that they graze within 400 metres of water and that no male calves have been euthanised, an industry practice that fuels the fire of anti-dairy campaigners.
